3.5.7 Turning. The semitrailer-towing vehicle combination shall be capable of making complete turns to the right or left (with the trailer assuming a 90 degree angle) without cramping or damage to either the towing vehicle or trailer (see 4.8.11.5).
3.5.8 Fording. Trailer shall ford salt or fresh water to a depth of 30 inches for periods up to
15 minutes duration without damage to the trailer or its components, and without special preparation or servicing before and after fording operations. No evidence of water leakage or moisture penetration into the sealed wheeled bearings or brake actuators per 3.4.1 and 3.4.8.2 shall be permitted (see 4.8.11.6).
3.6 Painting, marking and identification plates.
3.6.1 Painting. Paints and paint colors shall be as directed on applicable drawings
(see 4.8.12.1). For field painting application, all equipment exterior surfaces shall require alkyd enamel forest green paint per MIL-E-52929 Type II. For production painting, application of primer, MIL-P-52192 and finish only, apply to non-metallic surfaces. Application of all metallic exterior equipment surfaces shall require the following surface treatment, primer, and finish:
a. Treat per TT-C-490 Cleaning Method and Pretreatment of Ferrous Surfaces for
Organic coatings Type III.
b. (DOD-P-15328 Primer (Wash) Pretreatment (Formula No. 117 for Metals) (Metrics)).
c. Prime per TT-P-1757 Primer Coating, Zinc Chromate, Low Moisture Sensitivity. d. Composition L or MIL-P-52192 Primer Coating Epoxy, Composition L.
e. Finish per MIL-E-52929 Enamel, Alkyd, Camouflage, Flash Dry (Type II).
3.6.2 Marking. Identification marking shall be as specified in MIL-STD-642 (see 4.8.12.2). Exterior markings shall be black lusterless paint having infrared reflectance of MIL-E-52798 or MIL-E-52835 and shall be as follows:
a. National symbol (star). A 3-inch star shall be centered on the front and rear of the semitrailer.
b. Registration numbers. Registration numbers shall be placed on both sides in uniform Gothic characters. Characters shall optionally be 3 or 4 inches in height.
c. Safety and instructional markings. Markings such as tire pressure, tiedown, and center of gravity, shall be black, lusterless letters or numbers no larger than 1-inch in height.
3.6.3 Name, shipping and service data plates. The information to be included on data plates shall be in accordance with applicable drawings or as specified by the acquisitioning activity
(see 6.2). The plates shall meet the requirements of MIL-P-514 (see 4.8.12.3).
