than 3 inches beyond the rear of the tank. When a pintle is furnished, the bumper shall be constructed to allow for installation of a pintle assembly.
* 3.5.8 Fenders. The trailer shall have fenders over each wheel. The fenders shall prevent mud and water from splashing on the tank. The top of the fenders shall be essentially flat. The top of the fenders shall be fabricated of diamond tread steel or covered with abrasive-type paint
(ships grip). The top of the fenders shall be capable of rigidly supporting a 200 pound servicing personnel standing on the top. The fenders shall be rigidly attached to the chassis frame. Rubber mudflaps shall be installed to the rear of the wheels and shall conform to SAE J682. A metal strip not less than 0.125 inch thick and not less than 1 inch wide, extending the entire width of the mud flap, shall be installed to prevent the bolt heads or bolt nuts from damaging the mud flap. As an alternate method of attaching the mud flaps, tabs or clips with minimum surface contact dimensions of 1 inch high by 1.250 inch wide by 0.094 inch thick shall be furnished at each bolt. Access steps and grab handles, to assist personnel in climbing on top of the fenders, shall be provided.
3.5.9 Pintle. When specified (see 6.2), a pintle assembly conforming to MS 51335-2
(solid type) shall be installed on an adequately supported device at the rear of the chassis frame. The rearmost portion of the pintle assembly shall project beyond the rear of the vehicle. Two trailer safety chain attachment devices, one adjacent to each side of the pintle, shall be provided. Each attachment device shall provide an ultimate strength of not less than 18,000 pounds and shall be capable of accommodating a standard grab hook for a 0.375-inch chain (2.813 wide,
0.734 thick, and with a 0.484 throat diameter).
3.5.10 Lubrication. All moving parts of the equipment normally requiring lubrication shall be provided with suitable means for such lubrication. The lubrication fittings shall be standard commercial type with a surface-check ball.
3.5.11 Dimensions and clearances. The trailer, when uncoupled from the towing vehicle and without payload, on level ground, shall conform to the dimensions specified in table II.
