3.5.1.2.1 Highway. When transporting
the applicable payload (see table III), uniformly
distributed over the load area, over level, smooth, improved, and prepared hard-sur- faced roads at the sustained speed specified (see table III), each vehicle shall track the towing vehicle without weaving from side to side of the path of the towing vehicle moving in a straight line and without swaying lat- erally to the extent which adversely affects
the controllability of the vehicle combination. M529 vehicle payload shall be distributed as shown in figure 1.
3.5.1.2.2 Cross-country. When simultane- ously carrying the applicable payload (see
table III) uniformily distributed, and being towed over unimproved roads, trails, open fields, rolling hills, and cross-country ter-
rain at the appropriate speed (see table III), each vehicle shall follow the prime mover without damage to itself or to the prime
mover. M529 vehicle payload shall be distrib- uted as shown in figure 1.

3.5.2 Gradeability. When towed over a dry, hard surface free of loose material, each vehicle shall exhibit stability and gradeability specified in
3.5.2.1 and 3.5.2.2.
3.5.2.1 Longitudinal inclines. Each vehicle
shall follow the towing vehicle without weaving to the extent which adversely affects the controllability of the vehicle combination when ascending or descending longitudinal inclines having 40 percent grades.
3.5.2.2 Side slopes. Each vehicle shall follow the prime mover without slipping or upsetting
when operating, either left or right, on side slopes having a 20 percent grade.
3.5.3 Turning ability. When coupled to the prime mover operating in its minimum turning circle, each vehicle shall follow without cramping or sideslipping, without damage to the towed vehicle or prime mover, and without interference between the towed vehicle and the prime mover. On the M529 the trailer dolly (front under-carriage and axle assembly) shall assume an angle of not less than 90 to the trailer without damage to
dolly, trailer proper, or towing vehicle and without
