3.4.7.6 Alternating current system. The trailer shall be furnished with at least one outside weatherproof receptacle and cover for connection to an outside source of 120-volts ac. A connecting cable, minimum length of 7600 mm (25 feet), shall be furnished for the 120-volt system.
* 3.4.7.7 Engine-generator. An engine-generator set shall be provided to furnish auxiliary power for the air conditioner, the battery charger, and the 120-volt ac electrical system. The generator shall provide not less than 3000 watts of 120-volt, 60 hertz, single phase ac power. Unless a diesel engine is specified, the generator shall be powered by a propane fueled engine. The propane shall be furnished from the tanks specified in 3.5.11(c). When specified (see 6.2), an air-cooled, 4-cycle, diesel engine shall be furnished and shall include a fuel tank with sufficient fuel capacity to provide eight hours of continuous operation with a full generator load. The engine furnished shall include a 12-volt starting battery and an air cleaner. The exhaust system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.83(a) and shall incorporate a spark arresting muffler. The muffler shall have an 80 percent arresting efficiency when rated
in accordance with SAE J350. The generator shall be vibration isolated and shall be plate mounted. A remote control generator starting panel, located inside the trailer, shall be provided and shall include a start-stop switch, a battery ammeter, a running time meter, and an operating indicator light. The engine-generator set shall be suppressed to limit electromagnetic radiation in accordance with SAE J551.
3.4.7.7.1 Engine-generator compartment. The engine-generator shall be installed in an adequately ventilated, readily accessible compartment. The compartment shall be lined with a three-layer sound absorption barrier. The first and third layers shall be sound absorbent foam and the second layer shall be a transmission-loss barrier.
3.4.8 Landing leg. A retractable landing leg with caster landing wheel shall be provided on the tongue of the trailer, and shall be capable of supporting its portion of the trailer gross weight. The cranking handle shall be permanently installed. With the trailer resting in a level position on level ground, the landing leg and wheel shall be extendable to permit detaching trailer from the towing vehicle.
3.4.8.1 Landing leg supporting ability. With the trailer parked in a level position on level ground, the landing leg assembly shall support the loads imposed throughout the full extension of the landing leg.
3.4.9 Safety chains. Two safety chains shall be furnished. Chains shall conform to Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.70(d).
3.4.10 Bumper. A rear bumper shall be furnished and shall conform to Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Regulation 393.86.
