MIL-PRF-45333F(AT)
4.2.2.8.2 Automatic actuation. The trailer shall be loaded to a 26 000 lb highway payload
and placed on a 20% grade. The automatic actuating device shall maintain application and hold
the trailer stationary for not less than 15 minutes (min).
4.2.2.9 Fording. The trailer shall be towed through fresh and salt water at a depth to
entirely submerge the chassis for periods up to 15 min duration. Without the use of special kits
and with a minimum of preparation or servicing before and after fording operations the vehicle
and its components shall display no damage.
4.2.2.10 Landing leg. The trainer shall be loaded to a 26 000 lb highway payload and to a
20 000 lb cross country pay load and each landing leg shall be raised, support and hold its portion
of the load, and retract without sustaining damage. When retracted in cross country operation,
the vehicle shall be operated on unimproved roads, trails, open fields, and rolling hills without the
landing legs hitting the ground.
4.2.2.11 Turning ability. The trailer and the tow vehicle shall be coupled and operated in
a minimal turning circle without evidence of cramping, damage, or interference between the trailer
and tow vehicle.
4.2.2.12 Wheel and tire balance. Each assembly of wheel, tube and tire shall be balanced
and the vehicle operated at road speeds up to 50 mph without exhibiting unusual noise.
4.2.3 Interface requirements verification.
4.2.3.1 Design and construction. The trailer shall be examined to assure proper design
and construction requirements.
4.2.4 Ownership and support requirements verification.
4.2.4.1 Reliability. Trailer reliability shall be verified at a point estimate value equal to or
greater than 6000 mi which shall be demonstrated during the road test as specified in table II. For
calculation of the MMBF, a failure shall be defined as a condition which prevents operation, or
reduces performance below essential levels, or indicates to the crew that further operation would
be unsafe, and might result in extensive damage to the equipment. Any of the foregoing
conditions which cannot be corrected by the crew in 30 min, using the tools land parts normally
carried by the M345 or the tow vehicle, constitutes failure. Maintenance and human induced
failure are excluded.
4.2.4.2 Maintainability. A maintenance ratio of less than, or equal to, specified
requirement shall be demonstrated during the road test in table II.
